Jorge Guerra

Jorge Guerra has been continuously involved for over thirty years in the professional and educational theaters in the US, in his native Peru and in several other countries in Latin America and Europe. Among the most recent productions he directed were Goethe's Faust and The Three Penny Opera in Lima, Peru; Aeschylus' The Oresteia (Agamemnon) at New World School of the Arts, and Lope de Vega's Lost in a Mirror at Carnegie-Mellon University. Both a Fulbright and a British Council scholar, he obtained his M.F.A. in directing at Carnegie-Mellon University. While in Pittsburgh, he received the critic's award of Best Production of the Year for his directing of The Greeks and for Tales of the Vienna Woods .. He was the Dean of Theater at NWSA since the inception of the B.F.A. program in 1988 until 2002, a time during which he produced 150 plays, directed 25, and created the faculty professional theater company, The New World Rep, winning two Carbonell awards in its first season.
