Elisabeth Carroll was awarded a scholarship at the age of fourteen by
Russian born Marika Besobrasova, who trained her exclusively for three
years in Monte Carlo. Upon arrival in New York, Miss Carroll was immediately
engaged by the American Ballet Theatre, where she rose to the rank
of First Soloist while dancing leading roles. She was principal dancer
with the Joffrey Ballet before joining the Harkness Ballet Company
at its inception. As a ballerina of the company, she was acclaimed by New
York dance critics as one of the best technicians of American ballet, a
dancer of true individuality. She has done numerous national guest performances
as well as television appearances. She became a permanent faculty member
at the Harkness School for Ballet Arts, and since then has been
coaching and training members of major companies. Miss Carroll is presently
Associate Professor of Dance at Skidmore College.
