An actress and director regarded as one of the nation's most outstanding
creative talents, Joan has both Emmy and Directors Guild of America awards
to her credit. She has served as a creative advisor for the Sundance Film
Lab for the last six years. Joan directed the Mary Tyler Moore Show
episode, Chuckles, which was chosen as the Number One television
episode of all time by TV Guide. She has starred on Broadway and
played Viola in Twelfth Night at the American Shakespeare Festival.
She has also starred in Owen Marshall and The Psychiatrist,
directed by Steven Spielberg and most recently in Arsenic and Old Lace
at the Falcon Theatre in Los Angeles. Joan was the original director of
the groundbreaking show, Mary Hartman. Her first film, First
Love, was on several ten-best lists. Her directing credits also include
Spielberg's Amazing Stories series, Magnum PI, Doogie
Howser, MASH, Rhoda, Phyllis, Doc, Rich
Man Poor Man, Voices of Sanover, and tons more. Her acting and
teaching credits are too numerous to mention.
