Shadow of the Thin Man is fourth in a popular series of six films
(1934 - 1947) based upon Dashiell Hammett's 1932 detective novel,
The Thin Man. The films pitted William Powell and Myrna Loy as
Nick Charles, retired detective, and his wife, Nora, against a
series of mysteries and each other with wry and witty dialogue
that kept audiences coming back.
Shadow of the Thin Man finds Nick and Nora visiting a racetrack
when a murder of a jockey takes place. Some time later, a reporter
is murdered which draws Nick into the investigation. Through a
series of twists and turns, Nick and Nora unravel the mystery
while meeting many shady characters. Fans of the series note
many comedic light touches, such as when Nick, alcohol drinker
extraordinaire, is forced to drink a glass of milk and actually
likes it!
The film features Donna Reed in a small part as Molly Ford,
girlfriend of the murder suspect, Paul Clarke.
